Research in Patient Safety
University of Maryland School of Medicine
Baltimore, Maryland
We have multiple positions open for graduate and undergraduate students to join our research group.
Our research is highly inter-disciplinary and focused on three broad areas: information technology, coordination studies, and patient safety, all in the context of health care. We are seeking student researchers to participate in the following two projects:
- Large Scale Collaboration (http://hfrp.umm.edu/lsc/)
- Rapid Information Transfer (http://hfrp.umm.edu/xd/)
Our students have come from different backgrounds: nursing, medicine, psychology, computer science, electrical engineering, and information systems. They participated in a full range of research activities, such as field studies, literature review, experimental designs, prototyping novel user interfaces, and computer programming. Some of the activities were part of their degree programs and others for their own interests.
We expect students to publish while working on projects. See a list of publications in: http://hfrp.umaryland.edu/paperstore/search.php?categ=student.
We are seeking students who are committed to excellence and high standards, energetic, independent, and goal driven. If any (or more!) of the following fits your background and skill set, we are interested in hearing from you:
• Clinical oriented: emergency medicine, critical care, surgery, & trauma
• Human factors: task analysis, usability, & team performance,
• CSCW: informatics, field studies, & computer supported collaborative work.
• User interface: Rapid prototyping with Visual Basic, flash, PHP, & Visual C++
• Data processing: algorithms for time series analysis, networking, & real-time systems
The positions will be funded by National Science Foundation for stipend, tuition credits, and health benefits.
