The legendary Danny is back to our lab. With so many journal and tough peer reviewed conference papers under his belt, he will try to outdo himself while waiting patiently for his son, and of course finishing his grand thesis in record time.

Symposium at American Psychological Association
Yan will present the work on Coordination and Workflow of Operating
Rooms: Technology Support for Collaborative Coordination. The presentation will be based on research results from previous research project with collaborators (Jake Seagull, Peter Hu, Colin Mackenzie,
Young-Ju Kim, & Rick Dutton). The symposium will be part of American Psychological Association annual meeting in Boston, chaired by Dan Morrow of
UIUC.

Panel presentation at AMIA on Computerized Status Boards
Yan will join a panel at American Medical Informatics Association on "Computerized Status Boards in Acute Care Settings; Promise and Pitfalls," in November, 2008. The panel is organized by Bob Wears of University of Florida and Imperial College London.

Editorial in Critical Care Medicine
"Safety in numbers: The value of counting adverse events" was the title of the editorial by Kendall and Yan in Critical Care Medicine for a French study of adverse events in intensive care units, published this month.

Discharge round study accepted for publication
Ayan was the lead author for a paper describing a time-motion study on discharge rounds in Shock Trauma. The study illustrated that a little time was well spent for care coordination each day. The paper was accepted for Journal of Trauma.

Presentation at Innovations in Surgical Environment Conference
Peter presented the research on physiological data collection during medevac flight as well as the recent experience in earthquake relief efforts in China. The presentation was part of a 2-day conference on innovations in surgical environment, organized by the Maryland Advanced Simulation , Training, Technology and Innovation (MASTRI) center.

Review paper on teamwork in Journal of Critical Care
Colin and a collaborator from Australia just published a review paper on teamwork measures in Journal of Critical Care. The paper describes different methodologies used to capture team
performance metrics including clinical surveys, direct observation, and
video-based analyses of real-life clinical performance.

Kendall left Program in Trauma
Dr. Kendall Hall leaves Program in Trauma and she continues her innovative reserach in patient safety and quality improvement in Department of Emergency Medicine.

Peter came back from China earthquake relief efforts
Peter was prominently featured in Baltimore Sun after a 10-day trip to Chengdu, China, as a part of the medical team from the Shock Trauma Center.
